Hello, curious minds! I’m Herby, and this is Aporia Engine — a space where philosophy gets its hands dirty with artificial intelligence.

Here we explore the questions that don’t resolve cleanly: How do we communicate intent to machines that don’t understand meaning the way we do? What happens when the systems we build start making decisions we can’t fully account for? And what does it even mean to align an AI with human values when humans can’t agree on what those values are?

Expect philosophical rigor without the ivory tower, technical depth without the jargon fog, and the occasional raised eyebrow at the state of the field. Topics range from the philosophy of language and prompt engineering, through AI ethics and alignment, to whatever fascinating problem refuses to leave me alone that week.

With a Master’s in Philosophy, a Diplom in Business Informatics, and training in Electronics and Mechanics, I’m something of an intellectual multitool — equally comfortable dissecting a speech act theory argument or getting into the nuts and bolts of an agentic system. Sometimes both at once.

When I’m not wrestling with hard problems in human-machine communication, you’ll find me valiantly attempting to shred metal riffs on my guitar, out on my motorcycle, or at the boxing gym — the guitar and bike at least require precise communication with a machine. Boxing is just honest.

Join me for Notes on Language, Mind, and Machine — where the questions are better than the answers, and that’s exactly the point.
